Let's start a blog
Starting a blog these days feels a bit like jumping into the past. A lot has changed over the last 20 years, since blogging was the new thing and people from all around the world were starting one. Now everything is immediate and ephemeral.
Nevertheless, I still believe the best way to develop a concept is to write about it. I still believe that taking the time and space to explain an idea—sometimes for others, sometimes just for myself—helps clarify it. I still believe that giving people as much information as possible is useful to build a kind of communication that encourages collaboration.
So here I am, starting a blog in the era of video culture. And yes, I also believe videos are a useful form of communication—just not the only one, and very often not the best.
So, what is this blog about?
I work developing Pharo, a pure object-oriented programming language. It is a niche language, not because it lacks the capabilities to become mainstream, but because the industry has moved in other directions.
Here, I’ll try to write about my journey as a developer working with an unknown but beautiful programming environment, discussing day-to-day design choices—sometimes technical, sometimes philosophical.
And since there is no good way to start this kind of blog, don’t expect a great, life-changing first post (well, second post—this one is the first). I’ll simply post what comes to mind, while trying to find a direction as I go.
That’s also the reason for the name.
See you around.
